Edward D. Nelson is a partner in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He is a member of the Corporate Transactions and Investment Funds Practice Groups. Mr. Nelson’s practice focuses on the organization and operation of private investment funds. He has represented a wide variety of private investment funds, including buyout funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, secondary funds, distressed funds, international funds and hedge funds. Mr. Nelson also represents institutional investors in their private investment fund and other alternative investment activities; and he has significant experience in issues relating to the Securities Act, the Investment Company Act and the Investment Advisers Act. Mr. Nelson is consistently ranked nationally as a leading lawyer for Investment Funds by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and The Legal 500 US, International Financial Law Review and Guide to the World’s Leading Investment Funds Lawyers.
Mr. Nelson’s investment fund clients include Credit Suisse, Alternative Investments, Graham Partners, Inverness Graham Investments, J.H. Whitney Capital Partners, JRK Properties, Kuwait Investment Authority, Meadow Partners, Neuberger Berman Alternative Investments, NewWorld Capital Group, Olympus Partners, and Pinebridge Investments. Mr. Nelson is a member of the Committee on Private Investment Funds of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He earned his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1994 from Harvard Law School and his Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude in 1989 from Dartmouth College. Mr. Nelson also holds a Masters of Public Policy from Harvard University and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge.
