Tina Samanta is an associate in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.   She is a member of the firm's Litigation, Securities Enforcement, Securities Litigation, White Collar Defense and Investigations, and Electronic Discovery and Information Law Practice Groups.

Ms. Samanta has experience in a wide range of complex commercial litigation, with a focus on defending financial institutions and their employees, and large corporate clients in regulatory and internal investigations, white collar defense matters, and securities litigation.  She has represented clients in all phases of litigation, including trial, before federal and state courts across the country, and in investigations conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the New York Attorney General’s Office, and numerous other state agencies.  

Representative investigations include:

  • Represent broker-dealer and investment bank in multiple investigations and class action arising out of bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers.
  • Represented law firm in SEC investigation of valuation of collateralized debt obligations by hedge fund adviser.
  • Represented former CEO of investment bank in NASD investigation relating to alleged research analyst conflicts of interest.
  • Represented government-sponsored enterprise in New York Attorney General investigation of appraisal practices.
  • Represented large retailer in New York Attorney General investigation of employment practices.
  • Represented large radio station in New York Attorney General investigation of alleged “payola” practices.
  • Represented major investment bank in regulatory review of "flash crash."
  • Represented major investment bank in regulatory reviews of bond pricing and municipal bond trading activity.
  • Represented major media conglomerate in internal review of crisis management practices.

Representative litigation matters include:

  • Represent former outside directors of Bear Stearns in Southern District of New York derivative and ERISA class action litigation relating to the near collapse of Bear Stearns.
  • Represented financial institution underwriters of Washington Mutual debt in Western District of Washington securities class action litigation.
  • Represented financial institutions in fraudulent conveyance action in Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York relating to alleged loans made to Global Crossing.
  • Represented music publishers in Southern District of New York class action litigation alleging copyright infringement against satellite radio company.
  • Represented insurance company in New Jersey State Superior Court litigation relating to alleged damages arising from September 11 World Trade Center attack.
  • Represented investment banker in successful Second Circuit appeal of obstruction of justice charges.
  • Represented retailer in arbitration relating to former executive’s employment and termination.
  • Represented private equity firm in successful California Superior Court trial and subsequent appeal alleging breaches of contract and fiduciary duty relating to initial public offering of Tickets.com.

Ms. Samanta earned her Juris Doctor in 2002 cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School where she was an editor of the Michigan Law Review.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Johns Hopkins University in 1999. 

Ms. Samanta is admitted to practice in the State of New York, as well as in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.  She is a member of the firm's Diversity Committee.
