Power and Renewables

LEADERS

Overview

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Power and Renewables Practice Group has decades of transactional experience in the power and renewable energy space, and a deep bench of practitioners with broad knowledge regarding all aspects of the growing industry. This includes power generation, transmission, and distribution businesses, among others. We advise leading participants in connection with a wide variety of complex and innovative M&A, project development, financing, investment, joint venture and other power-related transactions.

In the conventional power space, our experience includes representing the acquiror or seller in more than six of the 30 largest U.S. utility M&A transactions in the past decade. In the renewables space, we have recently advised highly regarded acquirors, investors and issuers in connection with more than two dozen utility-scale wind and solar power projects, including the acquisition and development of two of the world’s largest solar power projects, and four “Deal of the Year” financing and M&A transactions.

Our clients include leading power generation, distribution and transmission utilities, renewable energy companies, IPPs, investors (including private equity, venture capital, and pension funds), project sponsors, developers, lenders, governmental institutions, export credit agencies, investment banks, advisors, traders and other industry participants.

Our experience is extensive and encompasses all aspects and phases of:

  • M&A, investment, joint venture and financing transactions
  • Conventional power projects, including natural gas/LNG, combined cycle, coal, oil and nuclear facilities
  • Renewable power projects, including solar, wind, geothermal, biomass and hydroelectric
