Gibson Dunn has represented leading companies in major federal and state government civil investigations and litigated proceedings encompassing a broad spectrum of antitrust conduct.  Several of our lawyers also have served in the Antitrust Division (Gary Spratling and Joel Sanders) and Federal Trade Commission (Joe Kattan, Sean Royall, and Sandy Pfunder).  Sean Royall has just returned to the firm after service at the FTC as the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Competition.  At the FTC Mr. Royall was one of three FTC officials responsible for shaping and overseeing the agency’s antitrust enforcement agenda on both the merger and non-merger sides. Mr. Royall served as lead trial counsel in a major monopolization suit in the computer industry, and a major monopolization suit involving the computer and semiconductor industries.

In recent years, our group has advised and represented clients in scores of investigations by the DOJ, the FTC, state attorneys general, and foreign enforcement agencies. For example, we have represented a major association of securities dealers and an electronic stock exchange in connection with investigations into securities "spreads" by the Antitrust Division.  We have represented clients in civil matters in such diverse industries as electronics, publishing, telecommunications, cable television, insurance, health care, and financial services.  Our lawyers also represented Intel and American Airlines in recent government monopolization cases.
