Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that Daniel Chung has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as of counsel. Chung joins the firm from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Criminal Division, where he was most recently a member of the Organized Crime unit. For more than four years as an Assistant United States Attorney, he investigated and prosecuted a wide range of complex federal criminal cases, involving securities fraud, Ponzi schemes, bank fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, health care fraud, insurance fraud, money laundering, complex racketeering, and terrorism/international cartel issues. He has tried eight jury trials to verdict, and briefed and argued numerous appeals before the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit.
Chung joins approximately 40 former Justice Department lawyers at Gibson Dunn. "We are delighted to attract Dan, who excelled as a federal prosecutor in New York. Litigation Department and Co-Chair of the firm’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Group.
Prior to his service in the United States Attorney’s Office, Chung was an associate with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York. He clerked for then-Judge Michael Mukasey of the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, and for Judge Norman Stahl of the United States Court of Appeals, First Circuit.
Chung graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2003, and magna cum laude from Harvard College in 2000. He is a member of the bar of the State of New York and is not yet admitted to the District of Columbia Bar; his application to the District of Columbia Bar is pending and he currently practices under the supervision of the Principals of the Firm. He is proficient in Korean, and conversant in Japanese and German.
