The Opportunities

Gibson Dunn’s ability to recruit top talent is crucial to its continued success. Our German offices offer internship programs for both students who are still in law school (Praktikanten) and legal clerks (Referendare) as part of their two-year mandatory legal clerkship.

What You Will Learn

Designed to facilitate a smooth transition from university to legal practice, our internship programs provide substantive training in various different areas. Our interns are actually involved in client representations, maximizing their exposure to a variety of practical aspects of lawyering.

You will be immediately involved in the highest profile legal matters in the world that the firm works on every day. We provide practical training in the skills and techniques required to make top-notch lawyers, as well as the opportunity to know Gibson Dunn, its lawyers, and its staff.

LL.M. Hiring Programme

An LL.M. is an ideal complement to your studies. To support the hiring of LL.M. graduates, Gibson Dunn participates in the International Student Interview Program (ISIP) and the Overseas Trained Program.

What is the ISIP and Overseas Trained Program?

They are large LL.M. Recruiting Programs in the US hosted by the New York University and the Columbia University, in cooperation with a multitude of top Law Schools.

The Programme allows employers from all around the world to advertise opportunities to LL.M. students.

The ISIP 2024 will take place virtually in late January 2025, usually on the last Friday and Saturday of the month.

The application period opens in October.

We look for lawyers presenting a German law degree with excellent grades and sharing our core values of collegiality, teamwork, and mutual respect in both following practice areas.

Corporate

The German Corporate practice has an impressive record of domestic and cross‐border M&A, joint ventures, and private equity transactions. Our corporate and M&A specialists have particular expertise in buyouts, strategic investments, divestments, carve‐outs, and public takeovers. Furthermore, we counsel on corporate governance, securities, and regulatory issues.

Litigation

Gibson Dunn’s Litigation practice focuses on white collar defense, regulatory investigations and compliance matters that often have cross-border elements, as well as corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration.
