John Matthew Butler is an associate in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Washington, D.C. office where he practices in the firm’s Litigation Department.
Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Matt served as a law clerk to the Honorable Steven M. Colloton of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the Honorable John D. Bates of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Matt graduated from Yale Law School in 2018, where he served as a Teaching Assistant in Procedure and an Executive Editor of the Yale Journal on Regulation and the Yale Journal of Law & Technology. He also received an A.B. magna cum laude in art and archaeology from Princeton and an M.A. in religion from Yale Divinity School.
